At Geneva Motor Show (3-13 March) Mini will present the brand new two-liter diesel engine 143 hp, for all the 4 models of Cooper currently in range. Certainly Mini SD couldn’t miss the central dual exhaust, roof spoiler and special bumpers.
ENGINE: the Cooper SD comes with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel 143 hp at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm at 1,750 rpm (it is the same engine that equips the BMW 118d and 318d) with aluminum base, turbine variable geometry and power common-rail with piezo injectors that operate at a pressure of 1,600 bar. Mini, however, did not forget the need to improve energy efficiency: in fact the engine is equipped with the Brake Energy Regeneration system, which incorporates the Automatic Start Stop, shift change indicator, the electromechanical power steering, pumps and alternator management to reduce power consumption. With the adoption of the standard particle filter, the approval is within the Euro 5 emission. The Mini Cooper SD sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 215 km/h, the SD Cooper Clubman gets to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and also up to 215 km/h top speed, SD Cooper Cabrio lost a few tenths in acceleration (8.7 seconds) and a few km/h in top speed (210 km/h) but is still faster than the Countryman Cooper SD: 9.3 seconds and reaches 198 km/h, while All4 close the range with 9.4 seconds and 195 km/h.
The six-speed manual transmission is offered as standard on all Cooper DS versions, but you can always request to have the automatic six-speed. A new custom pack called Yours, includes exterior paint, alloy wheels, coatings for the interior and other options. The limited edition Mini Clubman Hampton is the flagship of th range, with a special metallic blue body, blacks alloy wheels are and specific interior details.
PRICES: new SD Cooper pricing has not yet been formalized, but for the MINI Cooper SD can be expected at least a surplus of € 4400.
