BMW 3-Series the Munich’s most important new car

The 6th generation of BMW’s 3-series sedan has been presented in the web and the video below is going to show one of the most important new car of the next few years. Even if larger and much spacious than the present car, BMW claims the new 3 is less heavy -50 Kg- and in many instances, faster than before. The new 3-Series will feature a brand rear-wheel-drive and a totally uniformed 50:50 weight distribution, along with a body 50mm longer than current model and 37mm/47mm wider front and back, enough to add more sportiness. The new car makes its public world debut at the next Detroit motor show in January. The German auto maker will produce, along with the four-wheel drive, even a full hybrid, la ActiveHybrid 3 to be released towards the end of next year. The visual impact is from an athletic four-door sedan, which incorporates the latest 5-Series styles.

BMW 3-Series engines.

To push 2012 3-Series will be a dizzying range of turbocharged engine units. First up, the four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo 2.0 liter engine, which will produce 184 hp, while on the 328i has 245 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,250 to 4,800 rpm. In terms of performance, the 328i speeds up from 0 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds with the manual six-speed gearbox and 6.1 seconds with the eight-speed automatic. BMW claims top speed of 250 km/h and fuel economy of 6.4 liters per 100 km (6.3 with automatic) with CO2 emissions of 149 and 147 g/km.The 335i gets the same twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cilynders as before, with 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 5,000 rpm. These numbers allow the new 3-Series to be the top of the brand’s class (for now) to accelerate from 0 to 100 times in 5.5 seconds and easily get 250 km/h speed. Fuel consumption are stated at 7.9 l/100 km with the six-speed manual gearbox and 7.2 l/100 km with the automatic.The diesel engine have in common the same four-cylinder power-unit of 1,995-L to be distinguished by the delivered power, 163 hp for the 320d EfficienDynamics and 184 hp for the 320d. Again both version shares the 380 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,750 rpm with the fuel economy of 4.1 and 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers – 4.1 and 4.4 with automatic transmission – while CO2 emissions are 109 and 119 gr/ km. The EfficientDynamics 320d accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds and gets 230 km/h top speed (225 with eight-speed gearbox).

2012 BMW 3-Series will comes with equipment trim Sport, Modern and Luxury, while during the summer 2012, also will join the M Sports Package, each of these with a distinct character and more personalized. EfficientDynamics energy-saving program comes with Stop-Start, Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand control of engine components and low rolling resistance tyres on all cars.
