MINI Cooper Roadster ahead Detroit.

MINI has presented the final production model of its MINI Cooper Roadster which is scheduled to join the company’s lineup next year. This is the sixth model in the MINI range with price expected to begin from around € 24,000, featuring a manually opening soft-top roof and four diverse engine variants offered. The world’s premiere debut is scheduled at the Detroit Motor Show, next January.

The entire design recalls the MINI Coupe, but the Roadster version comes with a manual soft top and a more striking outline. Among Notable highlights include a sloping windscreen, stainless-steel roll bars and an active rear spoiler which opens at 80 km/h. While the SD and S Roadsters are slightly longer and higher, the MINI Roadster base is 3,728 mm long, 1,683 mm wide, and 1,384 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,467 mm and more than 20 mm lower than the MINI Convertible with s low gravity center. All this combined to a torsionally rigid body and optimized aerodynamic performance give the vehicle a go-kart feeling, as Mini claims. On the interior, the cockpit stands out a center-fitted speedometer, a wide dashboard and circular air vents. The boot only holds 240 liters (8.5 cubic feet) of luggage, but a pass-through opening enhances practicality. The luggage compartment has a load capacity of 240 liters.

All MINI Cooper Roadster are available with electric power steering, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Park Distance Control and speed-sensitive steering assistance as standard. Among options a Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) with Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) but is standard on the John Cooper Works version, while among other available options the MINI navigation system, black headlight housings, automatic climate control, xenon Adaptive headlights, Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system and MINI Connected features, such as web radio, RSS news feeds, Google services, Mission Control, Facebook and Twitter.

The entry-level Roadster is equipped with 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 121 hp and 160 Nm of torque and allow an acceleration time from 0- 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and 200 Km/h of top speed. This model claims an high-fuel-economy average at 5.7 L/100km with CO2 emissions of 133 g/km.
The same engine is offered with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that delivers 181 hp and 240 Nm of torque. This numbers allow the car to take 7.0 seconds on the 0- 100kmh, speed up at 227 km/h, while the average fuel consumption declared is 6.0 L/100km and 140 g/Km of CO2 emissions. The MINI John Cooper Works Roadster comes also with the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, but the final output is 208 hp and 260 Nm of torque, 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, top speed of 237 km/h and a fuel economy stated at 7.3 L/100km with CO2 emissions of 168 g/km. The diesel version in the Cooper SD features a turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel engine with 141 hp and 305 Nm of torque. Owners of this model can have a standing start from 0- 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and reach a top speed at 213 km/h. The fuel consumption in this case is sated at 4.5 L/100km with CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.
