2012 Audi R8 Spyder GT officially presented

During the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans, won by the R18, the Audi R8 Sypder GT has been presented along with the E-Tron Spyder concept.

After about a year since the launch of the coupe, now comes the Spyder version whose production is limited to only 333 units. The German carmaker says that acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 3.8 seconds and top speed of 317 km/h. Compared to the standard R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro, the R8 Sypder GT is 85 kg lighter, thanks to adopting a new tiny windshield and the use of carbon fiber and other more efficient materials in terms of  technology, especially in the case of the new transmission and the exhaust system. Even the aerodynamics of the car is new, engineers have used a large rear spoiler and specific front flaps, while the balance has been lowered by 10 mm and combined with new 19 ” wheels with front tyres 235/35 and 295/30 to the rear. The hood is driven by an electro-hydraulic mechanism that takes 19 seconds to complete all movements during closure or opening, which can happen also when the car moves up to a speed of about 50 km/h.

ENGINE: 560 hp of the V12 5.2 FSI, remain the same and still ensure to the Audi R8 GT Sypder the classic adjective of Supercar, especially looking at the top speed which is 317 km/h and the acceleration value on the 0-100 km/h of just 3.8 seconds (with launch control). The transmission is automatic R-Tronic 6-speed. Of course, the coupe version, which weighs less, comes with more performance: from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.6 seconds and probably the top speed will be higher but no data are known about it.

The brand with the four rings has already notified the German market price of € 207,800 (including tax), which puts the Audi R8 GT Sypder to compete with the AMG Mercedes SLS, even if they are different on many aspects.
