The current G-Class standard power-units will be kept for the 2012 model year, including the naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 engine having 383 hp and the 3.0-liter V6 diesel boosting 208 hp. The G55 AMG’s 500 hp supercharged 5.4-litre V8 will be replaced with a 536bhp engine 5.5-litre V8 to be a brand new G63 AMG.
The biggest news though is the launch of a new and extremely fast G65 AMG. Recently confirmed for the SL65 AMG has same twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 with 621 bhp. Based on The German auto maker, the iconic’s SUV claims from 0-62mph in just 5.2sec, however the new G65 AMG will be electronically restricted to 155mph. It is obviously that new AMG versions will receive a distinct front design to the standard Mercedes G-class model. All AMG G-class models get a greater front bumper incorporating large air ducts for more efficient engine cooling.
All new G-class models promises substantial fuel savings, thanks to a stop/start, brake energy recovery and the seven-speed 7G-tronic gearbox instead of the five-speed 5G-Tronic unit.
The facelifted and revised 2012 Mercedes G-class will still be offered with the choice of two different wheelbases.
