The German car maker set the debut of the new generation Mercedes GL at New York Motor Show next month. The bigSUV, shows on the most recent improvements including new technological solutions and car’s safety. The off-roader keeps the interior’s versatility, which can accommodate up to 7 people. Another important change regards the engine, with the BlueEFFICIENCY technology, which improves performance and fuel economy.
The new company’s style tends to leave the classic in favor of dynamic’s solutions. The result is a shapes rejuvenation, which has led to well liked solutions and that almost always match to technological requirements as the aerodynamic efficiency. The GL-Class, with his big body-wagon is 5,120 mm long, 2,141 mm wide and 1,850 mm high. The vertical tailgate makes a spacious cabin, thanks to a 3,075 mm wheelbase. New LED-rich headlights hold the revised grille, while the rear gets more chrome touches and LED tailights. The exterior design on the Mercedes G-class is well completed with standard Eighteen-inch wheels.
On the inside, the new Mercedes GL offers a closer more to a sedan than a SUV. The most distinctive feature in the dashboard, is center console with a sophisticate climate control, and the screen between the two air vents. The instrument panel includes a circular central screen, while the 4-spoke steering wheel incorporates 12-functions buttons. Designers have used wood, aluminum, Artico leather and hand-finished details to trim the interior. The three rows of seats (2-3-2), now offers more space and especially the third row can be moved and folded with a touch. The 2012 Mercedes GL-class feature a large boot up to 2,300 Liters.
Plenty of devices to debut.
In terms of safety and assistance systems the technology seen in the Mercedes-range has been extended to the new GL. Expect standard ESP, ASR, ABS, while the new Collision prevention Assist (CPA) alert the driver to potential obstacles in the road. Attention Assist system warns the sleeping driver and the Crosswind Assist acts on the brakes to reduce crosswind effects. On this premium Suv is also available the Mercedes Multimedia Comand system for navigation and communication, with an optional 360° camera.
GL-class buyers can opt for a GL350 BlueTec diesel with 254bhp/457lb ft with a better fuel economy and 20% less of CO2. The GL500 V8 petrol comes with the 4.6-litre and 402bhp. This is now less in torque than the V6 diesel with 442lb ft and down on efficiency, at 25mpg and 262g/km. What is amazing on this version is the 62mph in 5.9 seconds, which mean 2 seconds faster than the Mercedes GL350.
Adaptive suspension package on and off-road.
The new GL-class receive standard self-leveling suspension system and Active Curve System both able to improve comfort ,road-holding and body rolling. All 4MATIC variants in the new GL-Class offersregulating speed program on slopes and for off-road driving. It’s also expected a ON & OFF-ROAD package with additional features and special underbody protection for off-road driving. Adaptive suspension, in that case would lift the vehicle from the ground up to 285 mm.
