2012 Subaru Impreza fourth-generation has arrived

The 2011 New York Auto Show has unveiled the fourth generation of the Subaru Impreza, available as sedan and hatchback. Although the version shown is for the U.S. market, it also anticipates what will be for the European market. The new Impreza is almost identical in sizes to current model, and Subaru expects a lot from the potential of this car with the goal of selling 60,000 units per year, representing so an increase of 50% compared to today 40,000.

2012 Impreza improves the available space in the cockpit without affecting the external dimensions of the car, thanks to the lengthening of 25 mm, the the a-pillar advancement. The door frame was designed to increase space for passengers at the shoulders and elbows. New 2012 Subaru Impreza stands out for the horizontal bar across the grille, more shaped hood, curvatures above the wheel arches and behind edgy bumpers and smaller tail lights, which in the hatchback version do not come anymore on the tail gate as it was on the third series.

In terms of mechanics there are no major changes, still used the 4-wheel drive combined with continuously variable transmission – automatic or five-speed manual – and the 2.0-liter boxer 148 hp at 6,200 rpm and 197 Nm top torque. On the American market, the 2.5-liter 170 hp is replaced by the 2-liter 150 hp, according to the Subaru the 2.0-liter already used on the European version, gets best performance in acceleration due to better distribution of torque. Combustion chamber has been compacted to reduce emissions and increase efficiency. All models feature standard VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control).

The 2012 Impreza goes on sale later this year in the United States.
