The Japanese, who still maintains the primacy of the first car manufacturer in the world, wanted to confirm through a brief statement on his website his intentions for next year to market an electric version of Toyota Rav4. Toyota last year signed an agreement with Tesla Motors on producing a new RAV4 EV which is pushed by an motor. The Californian company would provide the batteries for the new Toyota RAV4 EV. For the Japanese carmaker this is not the first attempt on built electric prototypes as since 1999 produced some RAV4 EV powered by NiMH battery and sold exclusively to private clients.
The Asian carmaker, through a brief statement, said that new RAV4 EV will be definitely sold to the general public sometime next year and not like the latest rumors claimed, attributing the sale only to corporate fleets and car sharing company, as it surely will be for the future Scion iQ EV.
There are no official pictures of the 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV, but the aesthetic design of the prototype electric should not differ much from the standard version. The only certainties are about the lithium-ion battery pack supplied by Tesla that will push the new RAV4 EV for at least a range of 160 Km.
