Chevrolet presents at the show in Detroit in 2011 (15-23 January) the Sonic sedan and hatchback. As anticipated, the european model Aveo has been renamed Sonic for the United States, where it will be available in both 5-door, as a sedan. On the U.S. market will come around the summer of 2011 alongside the Aveon i Europe, will have competitors as the jap Honda Fit (Jazz in Europe) and Toyota Yaris.
The sporty design is optimized for the two versions, a more aggressive for hatchback and a classic and “mature” for the sedan, while interiors offer the same solution with equipment of motorcycle’s style. The Hatchback is 4.03 meters long, while the sedan reaches 4.39 sharing the same wheelbase of 2.52 meters, thus favoring the loading space of 539 liters, compared with 397 of the hatchback.
Chevrolet Sonic is Assembled in the factory in Orion, Michigan and should be equipped with the same propulsion units available for the Cruze, a 1.4-liter turbo with 138 hp and 200 Nm of torque available between 1,850 and 4,900 rpm, others engine is a 1.8 liter, 135 hp and 167 Nm at 3,800 rpm and combined to an automatic transmission.
Excluding the sedan version, the Chevrolet Sonic follows the Aveo’s ahestetic, version on sale in Europe. Standard optional are still richer: there are standard XM satellite radio, Bluetooth and USB capability, remote start, heated front seats and a sunroof, 10 standard airbags, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and OnStar with Automatic Crash Response.
The major news shown in Detroit, however, is the concept version Z-Spec, the latest evolution of a sport version already anticipated a few months ago with the Aveo RS. This is enriched with some special components as Brembo, Recaro, K & N BBS, Borla and Pedders Suspensions and probably will be equipped with a more powerful engine 1.4 turbo with 140 hp.
