ST family extends the its label to the Ford Fiesta to provide sporty driving performance after the launch of the Ford Focus ST. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show just ended last month, has been unveiled the new Fiesta ST concept, which continues on the long tradition of customizing sports cars beside the XR2 and RS Turbo. Ford states that the chance of a Fiesta ST joining the Focus ST would bring Ford performance to drivers in to main classes.
Built to anticipate a future production model, the Fiesta ST concept features an aerodynamic body kit packaged with lowered sports suspension and rear-end diffuser that incorporates twin exhaust system. To complete the exterior design, have been added a large honeycomb trapezoidal grille with the red ST badge, the sportier front bumper and 17-inch alloy wheels to evoke the brand racing activities with the Fiesta WRC rally sports car. Inside, the interior features Recaro sport seats and high contrast coating.
Power comes from A 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine with direct injection and twin variable valve timing, an engine that has an output of 180 hp and 240Nm of torque. The Fiesta ST power-unit is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox which enables the prototype to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 km/h. Ford also says the Fiesta will be fuel reliable and have CO2 emissions of less than 140 g/km. The production version of this Fiesta ST isn’t probably far away, expected in five months’ time at the next Geneva Motor Show.
