Gordon Murray T.27 to be the World's Most Efficient Car

The GMD (Gordon Murray Design) has unveiled the ultra-compact electric T.27 at the Royal Automobile Club in London. The project was funded by the British government with 9 million of pounds to make, in just 17 ​​months, the most efficient electric car in the world.

The GMD T.27 motor, specially developed by Zytek Automotive, develops about 25 kW (34 hp), while the batteries provide 12 kWh. Whereas the mini-car weighs 680 kg, according to GMD, the T.27 reach 105 km/h and would take 17 seconds to start from zero to 100 km/h with a range between 100 and 130 km.

WORLD RECORD ON EFFICIENCY: the British company also claims that the ultra-compact (2.5 meters long), needs a 29% less energy per kilometer than the last electric Smart and 36% less than the recent Mitsubishi iMiEV. Those achievements thanks to lightweigh materials made ​​with iStream technology which allowed also to lowest emissions at 43g/km on the combined cycle and 33 g/km of CO2 in the urban cycle, obtained with the UK energy standards.

Murray expects to launch the GMD T.27 on the market in around two years with the price at around £ 15.000, but British buyers can save £ 5000 which is the government subsidy on electric car purchases.
