Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder the cheapest open-top in the brand.
The new 2012 rear wheel drive Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder has been unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto show, last month. Essentially this is an open-top Balboni and as an entry level model the Italian supercar is currently the cheapest open-top Lamborghini on the market with around € 5000 less than the 560-4 Spyder. Like the previous coupe, it has been built to pay tribute to the long career of Valentino Balboni in the company.
LP 550-2 Spyder with unconventional rear-wheel drive.
This Spyder is an unusual open-top Lambo as it features the rear-wheel drive and weight 1,520 kg, 140 kg more than the standard model 550-2. The 19-inch alloy wheels gets two 235/35 tires at front and two 295/30 at the rear, while the car maker from Sant’Agata Bolognese has re-made the ESP stability control, updated the shock absorbers and modified the aero balance to manage the Spyder rear-wheel drive setup. Additional the supercar comes with a 45% locking rear differential and a different setting on the electronic safety systems when the function “Corsa” is selected. This limits the electronic assistance to leave more independence to the driver’s ability.
The engine is the same of the shut-top model, the V10 5.2-liter delivers 550-hp, which pushes the car to 319 km/h top speed. Another number tell us that the LP 550-2 Spyder can reach 100 km/h from a dead stop in just 4.2 second. Buyers can have the optional automatic gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel.
About prices of the LP 550-2 Spyder, we didn’t have still any official leaks but it’s not hard to suppose a number around € 180,000 euros, about 20,000 less than standard model.
