Mercedes has just released first official photos of the new SLS AMG Roadster which will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, to go on sale before winter. The car is already known in many details because designed alongside the coupe, with a classic lightweight fabric roof instead of the gull-wing doors of the SLS AMG Coupe.
Mercedes folks have been paid a particular attention to the torsional rigidity, which is essential to ensure the same coupe’s feeling , aiming to achieve an ideal level of noise, vibration and Harshness. The strengthening work of the SLS AMG Roadster has been focused on the windshield frame and the central tunnel, the portion between the tank and top compartment and behind the seats. In this way the body frame weighs 243 kg, only 2.2 kg more than the Coupé.
The soft-top of the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster has been tested to open and close up to the speed of 50 km/h to ensure a perfect seal even under the most extreme weather conditions. Among the hardest tests carried out on all Mercedes convertible, are those of the three-layer soft top which does not move at all, bend or make noise even at the top speed of 318 km/h. After that anyone can enjoy the 250-watt subwoofer of the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG audio system.
