At the French ADEME innovation Forum, a consortium of French companies named PSA Group Peugeot Citroën have unveiled their latest VELV Concept, a small light-weight urban electric vehicle able of transporting three people. The VELV comes after several similar concepts not long ago unveiled, such as the Peugeot EX1. Velv car has been developed by PSA Group in partnership with a pool of industries.These include Leroy Somer, Michelin (in-wheel motors technology), GKN and Valeo (powertrain and heating system), Johnson-Control Saft (Li-Ion battery stack and electronic management system), IMS/LAPS labs (dynamic behaviour), Leoni (signal and power cables).
The VELV (Véhicule électrique Léger de Ville – lightweight urban vehicle) presented at the one-day event organized by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency is very close to a three-wheeler and is capable with a turning radius of just 7.20 metres. Compact electric Velv Concept that has an 8.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 20 kW/27 hp electric motor which enable the 650 kg prototype to hit a top speed of 110 km/h with a range of 100 km on a single charge.
The exterior recalls some of Peugeot’s recent styling concept but most distinguishing elements are the gull-wing windows, coupled with conventionally hinged side doors. On the inside of, the information system indicates the car’s autonomy and detects the charging stations in the available range.
The French company stated that Velv Concept is targeted to corporate fleet and rental companies, as well as to private urban commuters but nothing about production plans has been mentioned. However there seems that such a generation of cars is about to come this year.
