Renault Mégane RS N4 new racing car

Renault Sport Technologies announced the Megane RS N4, considered by many the most powerful compact front-wheel drive on the market today, the one that is most closer to the competition. The new rally car is certified to run in Group N, the category that most closely matches the production model: in fact, the regulation permits only limited changes in order to contain costs. For istance, as regards the engine, may be amended only the control unit and the exhaust line. In order to ensure maximum reliability, transmission gears can be replaced but must be located in the original casing. The Group N series is open to vehicles to be produced in at least 2,500 pieces for 12 consecutive months.

MEGANE RS BASED: Derived directly from the Megane RS, the power is released on the front-wheel drive assisted by a Sadev five-speed manual transmission, the N4 will be marketed with a kit, which includes the Cosworth unit, a new intercooler and a dedicated tailpipe. Hp and Newton increasing, respectively 270 and 470 at 3,000 rpm. From Megane R.S. also the efficient self-locking front differential, a jewel that already makes a good traction out of corners and, on N4 is further speeded up.

The pilot can use a brake balance, while, as per competition rules, ABS and hydraulic handbrake are missing.

SAFETY AND WEIGHT: rough interior with racing seats, roll bar and little of instrumentation with a multi-function LCD screen – displays all information about engine running, the trip master and indicator lights that optimize the shift timing – further contributing to lower the 1,312 kilograms of the RS series. The weight, however, will not be known until the practice get the approval from the FIA. Among the safety equipment, as well as 6-point anchor seat belt, there is also an electrically operated automatic fire extinguisher.
